The Saskatoon Police Service is warning the public about a rental scam that has recently been re-occurring throughout the city.
A PSA issued by the police service says in most cases, the victim reaches out to the renter who then asks for a deposit. After the money is sent, communication between the renter and victims ends. This leaving the victim out of money along with no rental home.
The SPS urges residents to beware of deals that are notably below market value and not to send money as a deposit until you’ve verified that the property is legitimately up for rent.
It’s often that fraudsters will request money urgently and will often have victims send multiple small transfers.
Those who have been a victim of fraud can file a report online on the Saskatoon Police website.
