Around 1:30 Wednesday morning, Moose Jaw Police were sent to a home on South Hill for a report of a Break and Enter in progress where a subject was armed with a knife. Officers encountered a male in the back yard. Officers allege he threatened them with a shovel. Police say they tried to negotiate with him to drop the shovel, however he refused and when he advanced towards the officers with the shovel, a conducted energy weapon was deployed and the suspect was safely taken into custody without further incident.
Richard Douglas Houghton was charged with Break and Enter, Assault with a Weapon, Assaulting a Police Officer with a Weapon and Mischief under $5,000.00.
He is being held in custody and will appear in Provincial Court Wednesday.
