Instead of buying daffodils this year, the Canadian Cancer Society is suggesting daffodil bulbs. Bradley Stevenson with the Canadian Cancer Society says the daffodil campaign dates back to the 1950’s and not being able to have in person opportunities last year due to COVID-19 resulted in a just over a 50 per cent loss in revenues for the Canadian Cancer Society compared to what they would have done in a traditional year.
Stevenson says they are contacting work places which in the past have raised money for the Canadian Cancer Society by hosting daffodil sales but instead of co-workers buying live daffodils, you can purchase daffodil bulbs which will be planted at the Hope Lodges across the country. Stevenson says Hope Lodges provide support and care for people going through cancer treatment and in many cases, it is also where people stay while awaiting cancer treatment.
