City Administration is recommending the permanent closure of the Meadowgreen Recycling depot.

A report that could be sent to city council says the depot has been experiencing ongoing public safety concerns due to illegal dumping, scavenging, nuisance and criminal behaviour, including a recent fire at the site.

Administration says resources to keep the site clean and safe are growing and adjacent property owners are being negatively impacted. At the end of March the city decided to add security surveillance at all times along with reducing the hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, issues have remained.

If approved, city administration plans to block access to the site, remove all recycle bins and clean up spillage that has occurred on asphalt. It’s estimated all of that would cost $8,000 with the city then moving to consult with the community on how to possibly redevelop the area in the future.
