With vaccinations rolling out across the province, one of the first major sports events returning to Saskatoon will be the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in November.

Heather Bury, the Business Development Specialist with Tourism Saskatoon, says people are starting to get a little more comfortable with thinking about attending live events again. Bury hopes by November vaccinations will be complete and people will be able to watch the event safely at Sasktel Centre.

Currently tickets are just being sold for every other row, but Bury says that could change in the coming months. Bury says based of the last trials that were held in Ottawa, the event could inject 15 to 18 million dollar into the local economy. She adds that number will change due to COVID protocols at the time, but Saskatoon could see similar numbers if the trials can be fully attended. Bury suggests people from across the country are buying tickets which means more people in spending money on hotels, restaurants and local businesses.

The trials will include the top 9 women’s and men’s teams from across Canada, with the winners going on to the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The trials are slated for November 20th to 28th in Saskatoon. Click here to purchase your tickets.
