The air traffic control tower will not be closed at Regina’s airport.
NAV Canada launched studies last fall in an effort to streamline its operations and Regina’s airport was on the list for closing the tower.
A news release from the private non-profit corporation says it has decided not to close any of the towers or flight service stations, so service will also remain in Fort McMurray, Prince George, Saint-Jean, Sault Ste Marie, Whitehorse and Windsor.
Premier Scott Moe stated on social media the Regina control tower is part of a crucial service, so this is great news, and something his government has been advocating for.
NAV Canada has stated it will suspend aeronautical studies currently underway related to remote or northern locations until further notice.
