The pelicans are back.
Meewasin Valley Authority has announced the first sighting between the CPR Bridge and the Weir was 4:58 p.m. on Thursday. The MVA says previous arrival times have been between April 2nd and the 20th.
CEO Andrea Lafond expects the American White Pelicans have likely flown to Saskatoon from Redberry Lake, which is the site of the nearest nesting colony. They make the 160 kilometre round trip daily. In the fall, the pelicans migrate to California, Florida, Mexico and Guatemala.
The winners of the Pelican Watch Contest will be contacted and announced soon.
