The Saskatchewan Health Authority reports the AstraZeneca vaccine is now approved in this province for anyone 40 and older, as opposed to 55 and older, but the age eligibility for vaccines hasn’t changed just yet.
Based on the arrival of vaccines, the eligibility age is expected to drop to 44 and older on Thursday and then next Wednesday, the 28th to anyone 40 and older.
When that happens, the SHA will prioritize front-line workers including police, firefighters, healthcare workers, teachers and educational staff working directly with students, correctional staff and border security officers.
Details on booking appointments will be provided next week, priority to additional priority groups becoming eligible.
The SHA says to date, people 40 and over who have contracted COVID-19 have seen the most severe outcomes, including 84 per cent of total hospitalizations and 96 per cent of Saskatchewan’s deaths.
