The Leader of the Official Opposition says vaccines are crucial, but they are not the only measure we need.
ICU admissions are at a record high in Saskatchewan and a new, highly transmissible variant of COVID-19, the Brazil variant, has been confirmed.
That, from Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili, who believes the provincial government has failed to contain the second and now third waves of COVID-19.
He wants the Premier to give a full accounting of how the province plans to address a potential new spike in variant cases, including releasing all modelling and advice from the Saskatchewan Health Authority experts.
Meili notes that Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, has raised concerns about the potential severity of the variant and its potential to reinfect people who have already had the virus.
He says back in February, the NDP suggested rapid testing in schools, long-term care facilities, and high-risk communities and workplaces.
