STARS thanks the volunteers, the sponsors and everyone in Saskatchewan who donated to its first ever province-wide Critical Care on the Air Radiothon, presented by GMS. The final total raised was $340,000.
STARS is raising money to replace its aging fleet with some funds are going towards the purchase of two new cardiac monitors for their helicopters.
Spokesperson, Jeri-Lynn Johnstone, describes the helicopters as the equivalent of flying intensive care units.
Donations support the ongoing operations at Saskatchewan’s two STARS bases in Regina and Saskatoon.

Milt Mastad was cared for by STARS a few years ago after sustaining critical injuries when he was bucked off his horse.
His wife Paulette says, “You don’t think you’re going to need it, but when you do, you’re sure thankful.”
STARS flew 884 missions in Saskatchewan last year.
