One of the teams, Monday night, was guaranteed to end a multi-game winless streak in the W-H-L’s East Division “Dubble”…and it ended up being the Saskatoon Blades!

Rhett Rhinehart (pictured) roofed Colton Dach’s pass over Moose Jaw goaltender Boston Bilous on a 2-on-oh breakaway at 1:27 of overtime to give the Bridge City Bunch a 5-4 victory…ending a four-game winless streak. The loss sent the Warriors home, the first team to complete their 24-game schedule, on a four-game winless skid and an 8-13-3 record for 19 points and a sixth place finish out of the seven teams in the Regina Hub. The Blue and Gold never trailed in the game, leading 1-0, 2-1 and 4-2…the latter lead opened up in the first six minutes of the third period…only to have the Tribe rally to tie the score every time. Calder Anderson forced extra time with 4:17 remaining in regulation time.

Dach and Kyle Crnkovic paced the Saskatoon offence with four points each. Dach had a power play goal and three assists while Crnkovic opened the scoring, notched a second goal while the Blades were shorthanded and chipped in two helpers as well. Captain Chase Wouters scored the other goal for the 15-5-3 Bridge City Bunch, who were out-shot 27-26. The Blue and Gold went 2-for-4 of the power play with Dach’s goal ending a streak of 21 consecutive unsuccessful power play opportunities while Moose Jaw defenceman Daemon Hunt connected on the Warriors’ sixth man advantage of the game, ending the Blades’ streak of successful penalty kills at 24.

Thanks to Brandon’s 5-1 victory over Regina Sunday and Winnipeg’s 4-3 triumph over Prince Albert Monday afternoon, the Wheat Kings and ICE will finish 1-2 atop the East Division standings. Third place Saskatoon will finish their “Dubble” schedule on Wednesday against the Wheaties…a 4 p.m. start. The official game summary from the W-H-L follows…
