A junior hockey coach with ties to Saskatchewan is facing a charge of assault and sexual assault dating back to 1988.
66-year-old Bernie Lynch turned himself into police in Alberta on the weekend and is en route to Regina.
The charge comes after a complaint from a player who was 17 at the time.
Lynch has coached in Canada and around the world and is also the subject of another police investigation in Edson, Alberta after allegations surfaced of abusive behaviour made by parents and players, and concerns over what may have been an inappropriate relationship with a player.
Lynch had been the head coach of the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos and the midget Regina Pat Canadians and the Regina Capitals Junior B team. He also was an assistant coach with the Regina Pats. He has had numerous coaching assignments around Canada, the U-S and Europe.
