A 911 call sent the Saskatoon Fire Department to the 400 block of 4th Street East just before 3 a.m. this morning. Flames were comes from the rear of a 2-and-a-half story home. Fire officials say the fire appeared to have originated on the exterior of the house.

Everyone inside the home had gotten out before fire crews arrived and a family cat was located on the second floor and returned to the owner, healthy.

Crews removed much of the exterior wall of the building to fully put out the fire. Fire had breached the rear exterior wall of the house into the second and third floor of the home. The fire was brought under control within 50 minutes.

The Fire Investigator has concluded the cause of the fire was improper disposal of smoking material. Damage is estimated to be $75,000.
