Save Our Summer. That’s the call from the official opposition to the SaskParty government as the province begins to gradually re-open and more people are vaccinated. NDP Leader Ryan Meili suggests there are several practical steps to support local businesses and provide family-friendly activities. The measures include waiving all provincial park gate fees for Saskatchewan residents this summer, re-introducing the Gradworks program to enable more jobs for young people, and removing the PST from restaurant meals and live entertainment.
Meili says, “The restaurant industry has had one of its toughest years, made tougher by the SaskParty’s decision in 2017 to add the PST to restaurant meals.” He believes these three measures will make it easier for residents to be tourists in their own province and stimulate local economies while still complying with public health orders.
