Five Alternative Response Officers are now officially walking the beat in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Police Service calls the ARO program a new tier of public safety service delivery. They are trained Special Constables who facilitate outreach and referral services and also assist regular Patrol officers and members of the Traffic Division.
The Police Service says by providing a supporting role to enforcement and investigations, these officers will be able to free up time for regular police officers to respond to calls for services. You will recognize them by their grey shirts, special constable patches and the distinctly marked vehicle, as seen in this picture.
