The final performance of the season for the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will feature a conductor getting back to her roots.

Maria Fuller grew up near Earl Grey Saskatchewan, but is currently a member of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. She says the performance, called “A Trip to the Country” feels like a homecoming. Fuller explains being able to conduct on home turf is an extreme honour and it is a pleasure to be called upon by who she considers family and friends.

The performance, on Saturday, starts virtually at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Beethoven’s 6th symphony, made famous by Disney’s Fantasia.  It will also include the return of guest violinist Veronique Mathieu.  Fuller says in this music she can feel the fresh open air on her face, through the textures, rhythms and harmonies that will transport us on this Trip to the Country.

During the fall Fuller represented North America at the La Maestra International Conducting Competition for Female Conductors in Paris. She was one of only twelve conductors chosen worldwide.

Fuller says the Saskatchewan Prairie has always been her hearts motivation for writing and performing music and it means a lot for her to be asked to conduct close to home.
