SGI say there was one speeding ticket written every six minutes in April; 7,165 in all.

That number doesn’t include tickets issued from photo speed enforcement. 250 tickets were for exceeding the limit by more than 35 km/h. 65 were for more than 50 km/hr. 330 tickets were for speeding in a school zone. 38 were for exceeding 60 km/h while passing highway workers. 528 were for exceeding 60 km/h when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck at roadside with lights flashing.

Tickets for all of those offences are more expensive than regular speeding tickets, and carry additional demerit points.

In addition, there were 456 impaired driving-related violations; 747 distracted driving violations, including 641 cell phone tickets; and 473 seatbelt/child restraint violations.
