Prince Albert Police have added two new Elders to guide and advise members and staff as they continue working toward reconciliation and understanding.

Police Chief Jonathan Bergen officially welcomed Elder Liz Settee and Elder Leonard Ermine at a short event Thursday afternoon. Both Elders were gifted with cloth and tobacco and a beaded medallion adorned with the Prince Albert Police Service logo.

The Department says the Elders will act as spiritual guides for the police service and will lead members and staff in teachings and learning on Indigenous traditions and culture.

Both Elder Settee and Elder Ermine are well known for their work within the community, including with youth and the Prince Albert Grand Council. Sheryl Kimbley, Chair of the Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners said the addition of two Elders is a significant move forward for the police service and our community and asked the new Elders to continue including local youth as part of their work with the police service going forward.
