The Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice-President of Cameco says there is no competition between nuclear energy and renewable resources.
Grant Isaac suggests nuclear energy could be used as a baseline power source because it’s not intermittent, and then things like solar and wind can be added in the mix when the demand is greater.
The combination makes for a clean energy grid, which Isaac believes is what the private sector wants.
He explains that having an electric car can only help so much when its power is coming from a dirty grid, with energy sources that emit carbon.
This is one of the reasons he expects the future is looking promising for the uranium industry.
He adds that in the past, decisions around nuclear were made by politicians and policy-makers who come and go, but now that the private sector is involved in reaching net zero, he believes governments will have to be more accountable in their actions.
Isaac estimates around 15 to 1600 companies are working towards getting to net zero emissions, so they will want to make sure that the power they are receiving is coming from a clean energy grid.
