Monday wasn’t just a holiday; it was also Tax Freedom Day in Canada. It means, if you had to give every penny you earned to pay all of your taxes up front, you would keep paying them up to Tax Freedom Day. This year’s date is a full week later than last year.
In Saskatchewan tax freedom arrived on May 20th. That’s better than the national date and better than six of nine dates, every five years, since 1981. Last year, Saskatchewan had its best showing at May 12th. 2005 was the worst year with freedom coming on July 4th.
This year, Manitoba has the best showing at May 13th. Quebec has the worst at June 3rd.
