Justin Trudeau has addressed the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, meeting virtually until Friday.
The Prime Minister used the opportunity to praise municipal leaders for their partnership with the federal government on the pandemic. He says he doesn’t think there has ever been a moment where they have worked more or better as partners.
The Prime Minister started his remarks by pointing to the discovery of the graves of 215 Indigenous children at a former residential school in Kamloops. He says he met with his cabinet to determine the federal government’s next step.
He says every order of government needs to take action alongside Indigenous peoples. Trudeau says our country failed Indigenous communities and their families.
The Federation meeting is the first full gathering of Canadian municipal leaders since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
