Saskatoon Emergency Management has activated a Hot Weather Alert and issued information on the city’s cool down locations which you can see in our online story.

Heat warnings are in effect for the vast majority of the province stretch as far north as Isle a la Crosse and south to the U.S. border. A building ridge of high pressure over Saskatchewan will bring daytime highs into the low thirties with overnight lows in the mid teens today through Friday. Low or moderate humidity is expected throughout.

A reprieve from the heat will come early this weekend as cooler air makes its way into the province. Risks due to extreme heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Environment Canada advises that heat illness could manifest in swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
