An application that would see $100,000 directed to the Downtown Public Washroom project will be pushed forward by the City of Saskatoon. However, it is still up in the air on what exactly the end result of that project will be

General Manager of Community Services Lynne Lacroix says the funding will go towards developing an overall plan for public washroom access in the Downtown, including funding for preliminary implementation. Lacroix says they will continue to move forward with a sustainable plan to keep downtown washrooms open, clean and safe. Somewhere that people wouldn’t feel afraid to go into.

The project would work with persons with lived experience, community-based organizations, businesses, and others in the Downtown to determine appropriate locations for public washrooms and develop a plan for accessibility.

City administration reports COVID-19 has demonstrated the need for access to safe and clean public washrooms for all.
The application goes to the Community Foundations of Canada for round two of the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative.
