A suspicious death at a Yorkton nursing home is being investigated by the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit.
Yorkton RCMP officers received a report of the death on Tuesday, at which point the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit South took over the investigation. RCMP report preliminary findings of an altercation between two men, both residents of the home, that occurred in a resident’s room on May 27th at around 2:00 a.m. A staff member reported hearing a noise from the altercation and then discovering an 91 year-old man injured in the room. He was transported to hospital but died two days later.
The man’s death was determined suspicious in nature by the RCMP and an autopsy was completed in Saskatoon on Thursday. So far no arrests have been made, but police say the investigation is ongoing and there is no risk to public safety.
