The Canada/U.S. Border has been closed for nearly 15 months and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada says it is time to get it reopened.
TIAC would like to see the border open in four to six weeks. The organization says an expert advisory panel has made recommendations for travel so fully vaccinated travellers would be able to cross the border, while partially vaccinated or unvaccinated people would require some testing but they don’t want the onus for testing to land on business owners. Rather, TIAC President and CEO Beth Potter says that should be done at port-of-entry.
She says TIAC wants a plan from the federal government because they know it takes time to put the necessary protocols in place and it takes time to ramp up operations again in terms of rehiring and retaining staff.
