The saying used to be, “every penny helps.” Well, in the case of the Saskatoon Kinsmen Club’s Lloyd Saunders High School Athletic Scholarship Award, that gets expanded to, “every loonie helps!” For Olimidie Olaloku (pictured above) and Zach Zary (pictured below), they’re receiving two thousand loonies as help as they were announced today as being recipients of the 2021 Lloyd Saunders Kinsmen Scholarships.
Olaloku will be graduating from St. Joseph this month and taking Kiniesiology at the U of S this fall. She is a track and field standout. Zary is the son of long-time Star-Phoenix sports writer Darren Zary and is an all-round athlete, best known for his abilities on the football field. Zary is about to graduate from Evan Hardy and will suit up for Scott Flory’s Dogs this fall while taking a combined major of Kiniesiology and Education. Lloyd Saunders High School Athletic Scholarship Award
Each year The Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon presents the Lloyd Saunders High School Athletic Scholarship Award to graduating Saskatoon high school athletes. The $2,000.00 scholarship is designated to further the recipient’s education at the post-secondary level. Outstanding high school athletic involvement, community involvement and community service are some of the key selection criteria.
The Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon is pleased to announce the 2021 recipients of the Lloyd Saunders Kinsmen Scholarship:
Olimide Olaloku, a graduate of St. Joseph High School, and
Zach Zary, a graduate of Evan Hardy Collegiate.
Olimidie Olaloku is graduating from St. Joseph High School this June. Olamide will continue her education at the University of Saskatchewan in the College of Kinesiology this fall. Olimide will be competing with University of Saskatchewan Huskies Track and Field team.
Olimide is a track and field standout that has competed at the city, provincial, and national level. She has amassed over sixty medals in a variety of competitions. Olamide has been invited to compete with Team Saskatchewan and at Legion Nationals. In addition to her athletic skill, Olimide has excelled at academics and community involvement. She has been involved with the Best Buddies Club at St. Joseph High School and Elim Kids at her local church.
According to Olimide’s coach, Lee Wolfater, Olimide “has the desire and poise to become one of the best University of Saskatchewan Huskie athletes on the team. She has great work ethic and drive in practice.” She is ready to break records for triple jump in her rookie year.

Zach Zary is graduating from Evan Hardy Collegiate in June of 2021 where he was a standout on the Souls Football team. He will attend the College of Kinesiology and Education for a combined major at the University of Saskatchewan. Zach will be continuing his football career with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Football team.
Zach is a well-rounded athlete, participating in football, hockey, track and field, and basketball. He also gives back to athletics by coaching football, and as an official, referring both football and hockey. Zach received the Rookie of the Year award in his first season with the Evan Hardy Souls football team. In his grade 11 year, Zach was a team captain and won the Most Valuable Player award for the Souls. In addition to his athletic success, Zach has maintained excellent academic standing and honor roll status.
Teacher and Coach Bret Thompson had this to say, “[Zach] is the type of player that a coach hopes for; the type of player who is selfless, responsible, coachable, athletic, and works extremely hard day in and day out.” For Zach’s life-long dedication to athletics, his strong work ethic and sportsmanship, his academic excellence, and outstanding leadership qualities, he is a worthy recipient of the SSSAD Lloyd Saunders Kinsmen Scholarship.

These awards will be announced at the Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner. The official scholarship award presentations will be made to the recipients at their graduating schools.
