A public inquest will be held next week into the death of 27 year old Steven Rigby, who was shot in an altercation with police in Saskatoon in December of 2018. His mother, Carey Rigby-Wilcox said in March of last year that she would like an inquest not only into his final days, but into all of the struggles he had looking for support in the mental healthcare system.

His parents say Steven told them he was released from the Dube Centre because he was asked to give up his bed for someone in greater need.
That was two days before he was shot in the altercation with police.

Rigby-Wilcox says his first suicide attempt was in August of 2018, and he attempted many times between then and his death that December.
The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
