2021 NLL EXPANSION DRAFT

The Expansion Draft will take place on Tuesday, June 29, during which the NLL’s newest entry, Panther City LC based in Fort Worth, Texas, will stock its roster.

After much consideration, the Rush elected the option to protect five offensive and six defensive players.

The Rush’s Protected Player list is:

Offence (5): Robert Church, Josh Currier, Ryan Keenan, Mark Matthews, Marshall Powless

Defence (6): Jeff Cornwall, Ryan Dilks, Holden Garlent, Connor McClelland, Mike Messenger, Kyle Rubisch

“Going through an Expansion Draft is difficult for established teams like the Rush,” stated Keenan. “However, in the long term, expansion is great for the league and great for players.

“One thing I would like to make crystal clear to our amazing fans in Saskatchewan is that we will lose only one player in the Expansion Draft. The Panther City Lacrosse Club is allowed to take one player from each team’s unprotected player list. For us, this has been a very difficult process. It’s been months of planning and communication with my coaching staff and our players to ultimately making decisions based on the present and the future.

“There are multiple factors involved in these decisions. The age of the players, the ability to control movement rights of the players, and contract status, just to name a few. We will see what occurs on June 29 when the Expansion Draft is held and go from there.”
