Statistics Canada says the Consumer Price Index rose 3.6% on a year-over-year basis in May, up from a 3.4% gain in April. This was the largest yearly increase since May 2011. Excluding gasoline, the CPI rose 2.5% year over year.

In Saskatchewan, the rise was 2.7 per cent. We tied with British Columbia for the lowest increase. In Saskatoon, the rise was 2.4 per cent. In Regina it was 2.5.

Nationally, the monthly CPI rose 0.5% in May. It actually declined 0.1 per cent in Saskatchewan. We and BC were the only provinces in negative territory and again, the amount was the same for the two provinces. In Saskatoon, the month-to-month change was a drop of 0.1 per cent and in Regina it was a drop of 0.4 per cent.
