An initiative that began in the pandemic to help families in need will likely continue once its over.
That’s according to the Executive Director of the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation, who says the Cheer Crate campaign has been well received.
The idea is to support families in need with food, hygiene supplies, learning materials, and fun family activities.
Zeba Ahmad says for some students, school is their place for friendship, nutrition and learning, so the Foundation wanted to help families in uncertain times.
There were deliveries last year in May, June, September and December, totalling over 2,200 Cheer Crates and over 700 are being delivered today (Tues).
Businesses, community organizations and individuals have donated money, supplies and their volunteer time to help out.
Teachers and staff volunteer their time to deliver the Cheer Crates to their students.
The Foundation hopes to continue delivering Cheer Crates in June and December each year, so families have some much needed extras during extended school breaks.
