Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is back after having to cancel last year’s season because of the pandemic, and the new tent covering the new amphitheatre is up.

Artistic Director Will Brooks says it’s actually not a tent. He describes it as a fabric covered structure that in comparison to the previous tent, is a fully engineered theatre that will provide a safer, quieter, darker and cooler space. The tent was made by Norseman Structures and was installed as an in-kind service.

When the Shakespeare team began working on this year’s festival, there was no certainty as to what would be happening around safety protocols and COVID-19, so there is just one play this summer. Although the province’s safety protocols will be lifted by the time the play opens, Brooks says, they didn’t’ know what the situation would be, so you will notice the five actors are always physically distanced. He considers it a unique version of the Scottish play.

Tickets are now available at the box office on the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site, as well as online and by phone, with performances July 23rd to August 22nd.
