St. Paul’s Cathedral in Saskatoon was painted Thursday afternoon and by Friday morning, the paint had been removed with only a few remnants on the ground.
Bishop Mark Hagemoen of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon along with four other Saskatchewan Bishops have sent a letter to the Cowessess First Nation where at least 600 and possibly more than 750 unmarked graves have been found near the Marieval Residential School site. The Catholic Bishops of Saskatchewan acknowledge that this experience is heartbreaking and devastating and offer their condolences but know that this is not enough and words must move to concrete action.
The Catholic Bishops said in the letter that they honour and support the ongoing investigation of such grave-sites, “We are here to listen to you as you communicate those ways we can walk with you in addressing the Calls to Action, rebuilding relations, addressing issues of justice, and working towards a more just society.”
