Police are looking for information after a man was assaulted early Friday morning.
Police report responding to the 2900 block of Preston Avenue South for a report of a serious assault, where a 32 year-old man was assessed at the scene. He was transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result, the Serious Assault Unit is investigating with support from the Equity and Cultural Engagement Unit. Police ask anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the assault to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Mayor Charlie Clark released a statement Friday about what is now believed to be a targeted attack on a Muslim man. Clark says he is horrified and saddened about the targeted attack on Mohammad Kashif in our own city. He says he spoke with Kashif, police and community leaders. Clark says he is concerned for Mr. Kashif, concerned for his young family, and concerned for
the entire Muslim community. Clark states this is not acceptable in our City, not who we want to be and this is not what he wants for the Muslim community, or any community.
Clark called on the community to all stand with Mr. Kashif, and support his family and all members of the Muslim community, to build a city where everyone is safe to live their lives without fear of being attacked for living out their faith, values, or identity.
Clark also says that groups that are spreading white supremacy, Islamophobia and any other form of discrimination need to be investigated and held accountable and people must also confront individual acts of racism and discrimination.
