E.D. Feehan students, Metis and First Nation Elders, a newcomer community leader and Saskatoon Transit worked together and the end result is a colourful bus shelter on the north side of Rusholm Road close to the school. This is not the first cooperative effort on a bus shelter design.
The City of Saskatoon says there was a collaboration on a Metis inspired bus shelter at Aden Bowman Collegiate, and a First Nations inspired shelter at Nutana Collegiate.
Saskatooon Transit wanted to work on another shelter specifically for Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #93.
Director of Transit, Jim McDonald says it’s the call to revise the information kit for newcomers to reflect a more inclusive history of the diverse Aboriginal peoples of Canada. He believes this shelter is an example of building bridges of cross-cultural awareness.
