WHL hockey is coming back to Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Blades released their 2021-2022 in a media release Monday morning. Their home opener will be Saturday October 2nd against the Moose Jaw Warriors. It will be their first game at home in 575 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Release from the Saskatoon Blades:
SASKATOON, SK — Today, the Saskatoon Blades are thrilled to announce the highly anticipated 34-game home schedule for the 2021-22 regular season, inviting hockey fans back into SaskTel Centre this winter.
Junior hockey officially returns to the Bridge City on Saturday, October 2nd, when the Blades welcome their division-rivals, the Moose Jaw Warriors, to home ice to complete a home-and-home series. This will be Saskatoon’s first regular season home game since defeating the Regina Pats 3-2 in overtime on March 6th, 2020 — a stretch of 575 days.
Saskatoon, who’s coming off an impressive 16-5-2-1 record in Regina’s Hub Centre this spring, will play the majority of home games in the second half of the season, setting the stage for a jam-packed, entertaining playoff run down the stretch. The team’s longest home-stretch is six-games long, beginning on January 28th before wrapping up on February 11th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Prince Albert Raiders will enter SaskTel Centre a total of five times each, with the two Manitoba-based squads, the Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg ICE, along with the Moose Jaw Warriors, playing in Saskatoon four times. The Blades will also welcome the Regina Pats to town on three occasions. This season’s home schedule will also bring each Central Division opponent into Saskatoon, including three contests against the Edmonton Oil Kings and Red Deer Rebels. The Swift Current Broncos will rejoin the Central Division for the upcoming campaign, and will play in Saskatoon twice, along with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Calgary Hitmen, and Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The day-by-day breakdown is as follows: Monday (0), Tuesday (2), Wednesday (7), Thursday (1), Friday (11), Saturday (10), Sunday (3). Saskatoon will play in five back-to-back scenarios at home this season. Saskatoon will conclude the 2021-22 regular season on Saturday, April 2nd hosting the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Home games Monday – Saturday will all begin at 7:00 p.m., with doors to SaskTel Centre opening one hour before puck drop. Sunday home games will start at 4:00 p.m.ENTIRE 2021-22 REGULAR SEASON HOME SCHEDULE
