The cause of a fire on the 2000 block of Quebec Avenue is still being investigated by the Saskatoon Fire Department, but damages are estimated at $1,000,000.

Thursday at 1:38 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call for flames and smoke coming from the roof of a building.  Four fire engines, a ladder truck, a heavy rescue unit and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.  On arrival at 1:41 p.m., first arriving fire crews identified a long, single storey structure with smoke showing.  An additional size up determined the need for firefighters to breach their way into the structure as access was challenging.  Two additional fire engines have been dispatched to provide relief due to extreme heat from the weather adding to firefighters’ intensive work.

The Saskatoon Police Service reported there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Investigators believe the origin of the fire was a vehicle parked inside the building, but say the investigation is ongoing as the Saskatoon Fire Department works with outside agencies.
