The city of Saskatoon has been defeated in a vaccine challenge between Mayor Charlie Clark and Regina Mayor Sandra Masters.
The challenge was to see which city could get the highest percentage of first doses administered between June 17th and 30th went to Regina. Although Saskatoon had more doses overall during that time, Regina had more per every 1000 people (20.1 versus Saskatoon’s 19.7). After the challenge 73 per cent of Regina’s population have received their first shot while 70 per cent of Saskatoon have received their first dose. The challenge included the winning mayor getting to choose a song for the other to lip-synch. Masters has chosen “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate” for Charlie Clark to lip-synch.
Mayor Clark made an additional challenge for the month of July, of who could get the most doses, first or second, overall.
“We are not out of the woods with COVID. It is really important that we keep getting both first and those second doses, especially for businesses who are in survival mode, for many workplaces who are bringing their employees back in September, and for parents who want their kids to return safely to school. We have the summer to get ourselves on track and put all the pieces in place for a healthy fall.”
Between the two cities more than 10,000 doses were administered in the two week period with 5685 in Saskatoon and 4747 in Regina.
