The Saskatoon Fire Department has some advice if you are thinking about going for a dip in the river to cool off, with temperatures reaching the high twenties to the low thirties in the next week.
Assistant Fire Chief Yvonne Raymore says there is actually a bylaw against swimming in the river in the city, but you can wade in the water, if there are no signs prohibiting it.
It’s all about safety, Raymore explains.
The current is constantly changing the river bottom and the banks, and carrying debris along with it.
For those that prefer to get out on the river with watercraft, Raymore reminds everyone that drugs and alcohol aren’t permitted, and you need to wear a personal flotation device.
Also, the speed limit is 30 kilometres per hour.
The goal is to not have a wake which will affect any other boaters or non-motorized watercraft.
The Saskatoon Fire Department’s Water Rescue team was able to safely rescue a person in the river near the Canoe Club earlier this week,
