Statistics Canada says investment in building construction cooled slightly in May, decreasing 1.9% to $19.4 billion. This was the first drop in seven months. Residential construction investment was off 2.7 per cent; down for the first time since April 2020, while non-residential construction increased slightly.
In Saskatchewan, investment on the residential side was down 16.9 per cent. That was the largest decline of the five provinces in the red. Total investment was $270.3 million.
In non-residential construction, Saskatchewan was down 0.1 per cent. Of the five provinces reporting drops, ours was the smallest. Total investment in this province was $74.9 million.
