We had a phone call to the newsroom Monday morning about a lot of smoke in the air in the Nipawin area. Environment Canada does have a special weather statement out for several RMs in the Melfort, Nipawin, and Carrot River areas. Wildfire smoke is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility.
Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

At last report, we have 91 active wildfires in the province. Nine are contained, 33 are not contained. in 14 cases, fire fighters are focused on protecting property. 35 fires are being monitored.
