Thompson, Manitoba RCMP got word on the weekend of two boaters who were stranded, without their boat, near an unnamed lake, 53 kilometres south of Thompson. Officers tried to get to them using a snowmobile trail but found it became inaccessible. An alternate route was planned that took them over a beaver dam and about three kilometres through the bush. They came to the lake and used canoes owned by locals to paddle across the lake and bring the two stranded men in their 50’s back in good health.
Inspector Chris Hastie, Thompson RCMP Detachment Commander says, “You can’t get much more Canadian than this rescue, with beaver dams, canoes, and Mounties.”
