As of this morning, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is reporting 104 active wildfires in the province for a total this year of 332, compared to the 5 year average of 208 for this date. Five are contained, 18 are protecting property, 26 are not contained and there is ongoing assessment on 55 of the fires.
Some communities have evacuated because of the Lock fire in northwest Saskatchewan, including from the Village of St. George’s Hill, Dillon, Buffalo River Dene Nation and Michelle Village, according to the SPSA. Thirty-one people were evacuated to North Battleford and some travelled to Lloydminster.
The provincial fire ban continues for all Crown land and provincial parks, and the SPSA says many municipalities have their own fire bans.
