The city of Saskatoon has been successful in obtaining funding towards a program to promote boating safety on the South Saskatchewan River.
In response to concerns regarding on-water safety and etiquette of motorized and non-motorized watercraft the Saskatoon Fire Department applied for funding from Transport Canada towards a Boater Safety Program.
The Government of Canada will contribute up to 75 per cent of expenses for the program, up to $200,000. The program will consist of hiring staff to patrol boating access areas, from mid-July to the end of September, to promote safe and respectful boating. Organized presentations will also be delivered to clubs and user groups.
