SGI and the Saskatoon Police Service are teaming up until this fall on a pilot project to monitor excessive vehicle noise. For light vehicles the decibel limit is 96 decibels. For motorcycles it fluctuates between 96 and 100 decibels. Operating a vehicle found to be creating excessive noise could result in a fine starting at $115.00.
Beginning July 19th, Saskatoon Police will issue notices to vehicles in the city determined to be excessively loud. Those notices mean drivers have to contact SGI and go to a vehicle noise testing clinic. There is no cost for the test but modifications to get in line with the law will be borne by the vehicle owner.
