It’s the first time for a Shakespeare play to be performed in the newly constructed amphitheater on the riverbank at the foot of the University bridge, and it’s the first season for Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan in two years because of the pandemic.
Artistic Director Will Brooks says the excitement is ramping up among the performers and crew with the first preview night on Wednesday  and opening night on Friday.
He explains that this adaptation of Macbeth includes the public health protocols of physical distancing, because it wasn’t known what the summer would bring when the adaptation work began.
There are five actors on five separate stages and they never physically interact.
The story is told from the perspective of the witches.
Brooks adds that the aesthetic work is strong with the lights and sound, to add some extra touches to the physically distanced play.
Opening night is sold out, but tickets are available for Macbeth through the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan website or at the box office on site with shows running through August 22nd.
