Several traffic reviews were brought before city council this week, which lead to traffic plans for multiple areas in the city.
The Gordie Howe Management Area, West and Southwest Industrial Neighbourhood, Agriplace and Marquis Industrial, Central Industrial Area, and Rosewood and Lakewood Suburban Centre all received reviews.
Traffic plans include things like more traffic signs and pavement markings, pedestrian safety devices, traffic calming measures and ramps and sidewalks.
Between all four reports a total of $14,850 could be spent this year, council will consider just under a million dollars ($999,000) in potential projects in the coming years.
The city administration traffic plans were developed in consultation with residents, businesses and road users in response to concerns of speeding, traffic short-cutting and pedestrian safety.
Gordie Howe Management Area, West and Southwest Industrial Neighbourhood Traffic Review:
There were recommendations for turn advisory signs, yield signs, oversized stop signs, stop bars, parking restrictions, additional guide signs and sidewalks. In 2021 signs and pavement markings will result in $3,500 in expenses, future projects are listed as to be determined for future costs.
Agriplace and Marquis Industrial Traffic Review:
Recommendations of reflective devices, speed display boards, pedestrian devices, accessibility ramps and sidewalks.
In 2021 $100 in reflective devices are accounted for. A Total of $504,000 in sidewalks, ramps, and pedestrian devices are recommended.
Central Industrial Area Review:
Recommendations to improved safety include pedestrian crossing devices and sidewalks. There are no costs in 2021 from this review, but a recommended $245,200 for pedestrian safety devices, signs and pavement markings will be looked at in the future.
Rosewood and Lakewood Suburban Centre Review:
In 2021 traffic counts, signs and pavement markings are recommended, beyond this year $250,500 are recommended for pedestrian safety devices, traffic calming measures, ramps and other measures.
