The number of daily vaccinations is down while the number of cases of COVID-19 is on the rise in the north, which has the Saskatchewan NDP urging the provincial government to take action to increase vaccine uptake. Leader Ryan Meili has suggested everyone at a Roughrider game should be vaccinated, but in the absence of that, he would like to see tailgate clinics at the games. He is concerned about the Delta variant causing a fourth wave of the virus.

The NDP has a few other suggestions. Meili is calling for the province to work with hard-hit communities like Buffalo River Dene Nation to contain outbreaks and increase the vaccination rates, and expand vaccine eligibility to all those born in 2009, not just those who have turned 12 years old. This is something Alberta has done.

The NDP also suggests reversing the decision to discontinue central appointment booking and instead ramp up calls to reach out to those who are unvaccinated to make appointments, and ensuring a strong in-school vaccination program when classes resume in September.
