The Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP would like the province’s internal dashboard on drug overdoses made public.
Ryan Meili says the crisis is extreme in this province.
The number of lives lost because of overdoses has grown exponentially over the last few years.
He suggests instead of being an internal dashboard, it could be a public dashboard similar to what the province has done for COVID-19.
Meili also commented on the government considering a new Methadone formulation called Methadose.
He pointed to the situation in British Columbia.
That province made the switch in 2014 and reports from some patients are that it caused withdrawals and led them back to using drugs again.
Meili says that worries him, because getting somebody on a stable Methadone dose can open up so much possibility, including safe housing and getting back to work.
He hopes that if the province does make the move, that people will have the opportunity to go back to the original formulation if the Methadose doesn’t work for them.
