Canadians are weighing in on the question of women’s sport and gender identify. In a poll commissioned by the Macdonald Laurier Institute, about 40 per cent of respondents said it was unfair to allow transgender athletes to compete in women’s events. The question was asked on a scale of 1 to 7 with 1 representing, “unfair.” Only about 6.6 per cent thought it was fair. Another 12.5 per cent said they don’t know or, it depends.
When asked whether it is right or wrong for men and women to compete separately in sports, about 35.5 per cent said it is right, about 6.6 per cent said it was wrong, and about 15.8 per cent said they don’t know or that it depends.
