The number of new Covid-19 cases jumped over 100 on Saturday in the latest report from the Ministry of Health.
130 cases were reported, 60 recoveries and no new deaths means the active case count is now at 628. Saskatoon had the most new cases with 38, while the North Central and Far North West had 14, the Far North East had 13, the South East had 10 and the rest of the cases were spread among all other zones.
There are 60 people in hospitals across Saskatchewan with 12 in intensive care. The seven day average of new cases is now at 62.
Yesterday 3,491 new vaccine doses were reported as administered, that brings the provincial total to 1,430,018. Currently 664,144 people have been fully vaccinated.
Immunization Clinics to Wrap Up
As of Sunday the Saskatchewan Health Authority is shifting its focus to targeted outreach which will mean drive thru and most appointment booked vaccine clinics will be discontinued.
COVID-19 immunizations continue after August 8th but it will be through walk-in or pop-up clinics at public venues as well as at participating pharmacies by appointment. Appointments booked online will continue for some smaller centres where pharmacy immunization isn’t available. The SHA says the province will continue to see COVID-19 transmission for the rest of the summer and into the fall especially with variants of concern like the Delta variant which is now spreading in Saskatchewan. The Delta variant spreads much quicker than the original strain, particularly among those who aren’t fully vaccinated and a large portion of that population are young people who aren’t eligible to receive the vaccine.
The SHA also says testing remains an important part of a multi-layered approach to personal protection against COVID-19 including choosing to wearing a mask, washing your hands often, staying home if you are unwell and getting immunized when it’s available to you.
